Ecuador And The Galapagos Islands – Travellers Can Visit If Vaccinated

International travelers who have received both COVID-19 vaccinations can now visit Ecuador and explore the Galapagos Islands.

Good news for travelers, as Ecuador announces that travelers who have been fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus are now allowed to enter Ecuador and visit the beautiful, off-shore Galapagos Islands.

Vaccinated Travelers Can Visit Ecuador And The Galapagos Islands

Travelers no longer need to provide a negative PCR test to visit Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. As long as they have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination, and can provide proof, visitors are now welcome in the country.

However, anyone aged two or over who hasn’t had the vaccine will be asked to provide proof of a negative PCR test, taken up to three days prior to arrival. Should travelers not have proof of a negative PCR test, one can be taken within the same timeframe. Should the test prove to be positive, the traveler will be required to undergo quarantine for ten days at home, or any other type of chosen accommodation. Any travelers who wish to visit the iconic Galapagos Islands from Ecuador must provide a negative PCR test, taken within 96 hours of traveling.

Travelers Diagnosed With COVID-19

Anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 more than a month prior to travel, and continues to have a positive PCR test, will be able to enter Ecuador. However, they must present a medical certificate issued in their country of origin to guarantee they are in good health.

Travelers visiting Ecuador will pass through a sensor on arrival that detects temperatures above 37.5 degrees Celsius. They will also be required to comply with Ecuador’s strict social distancing regulations and must wear face masks during their stay.

What Does Ecuador Have To Offer Travelers?

Once travelers have gained admission to Ecuador, the choices are endless. Among the many attractions are the historic centers of Cuenca and Quito with their beautiful, 17th-century churches and monasteries, quaint plazas, and more.

As for the Galapagos Islands, these are a wildlife enthusiast’s dream with their often unique and unusual species. The landscapes of the volcanic islands are like no other and are strikingly beautiful. The islands are set in the Pacific Ocean, 1,000 km off the coast of Ecuador. The UNESCO World Heritage List location has a total of 19 islands, as well as a marine reserve that was named a “living museum and showcase of evolution.” This wonderful location inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection during his visit in 1835.

Among the many species in the Galapagos Islands, visitors will see giant tortoises, land iguanas, attractive blue-footed boobies, and a variety of finches and other bird species. Travelers can also enjoy the Amazon rainforest, with its vast number of species of mammals, reptiles, and birds. Visitors can explore the area on the rivers and hike the forested trails to spot sloths, toucans, monkeys, and river dolphins.
