Royal Family News: Princess Eugenie ‘Shocker,’ Breaks Royal Baby Protocol

British royal family news shows that Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank became parents for the first time when they welcomed their first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, on February 9.

You may not know it, but Eugenie actually broke from royal tradition in her motherhood journey, including the post-birth photo.

In this way, Eugenie mimicked her cousin Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle by keeping the details surrounding the birth private and by opting out of giving her son a title.

Royal Family News: Princess Eugenie Is A Rule Breaker

Eugenie bent the rules by not having the traditional royal baby photocall. Usually, the first released photos of a royal baby are taken at an official photocall within a few days of the birth. In this way, she followed Princess Diana’s example.

Diana began the new tradition of holding a post-birth photocall outside the hospital. After she gave birth to Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984, she was photographed holding her sons. Kate Middleton and Prince William followed this same tradition after the births of their three children. Harry and Meghan also did not pose outside the hospital after their son Archie was born. Instead, they had a private photo shoot at Windsor Castle two days later.

What did Eugenie do? She went a step further and posted some pictures to Instagram that were taken by her midwife.

Princess Eugenie did not use a royal photographer. She posted a black and white shot of the baby’s hand on Instagram with the caption: “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”

The photo was taken by their midwife, who she thanked alongside “the wonderful essential workers.”

The post consisted of two family photos and one picture of the baby.
