On February 24, Katharine McPhee Foster gave birth to a baby boy, the first child that she has with David Foster after the two married in 2019. The singer/actress was very open about her journey to motherhood, especially in the midst of an ongoing pandemic, even sharing hot pics of herself on her Instagram page captioned ‘Instagram vs. Reality.’
She obviously loves being a new mommy, even though I predicted she would fit right into that role since she has an easy-going and always smiling nature, gosh that baby’s gonna get a lot of smiles from mommy. In case we were wondering, she made it clear, “I love being a new mommy!” along with the most adorable picture of her with her newborn baby in a baby carrier.
The former “American Idol” contestant first met David Foster, a famed 16-time Grammy Award winner, back in 2006 when he appeared as a guest mentor on the show. While this is the 36-year-old’s first child, Foster, 71, has had many children from his previous relationships.
After Katharine’s marriage with Nick Cokas and a nearly two-year relationship with scorpion costar Elyes Gabel, she started dating record producer David Foster in 2017 and got engaged in June 2018. They married a year later on June 28, 2019, and a year after their marriage, they revealed that they were planning to start a family.
McPhee admitted in an episode of Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast earlier in March that when she started dating Foster back in 2007, she was “very concerned about what people would think” of their age gap, especially since some of Foster’s children are very much older than her.
McPhee’s first child is David Foster’s sixth child, as he’s also the father of Allison, 50, Amy, 47, Sara, 40, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34. The Over It singer said that she was ‘very, very young’ when she met Foster and he produced her Somewhere Over the Rainbow single in 2006, but that she had become a full-on woman when they reconnected years later.
“We all have the ability to label things and to look at something for the way that it looks or face value and make a judgment,” Katharine McPhee Foster said, “So I totally get the judgment initially, but things are never as they appear, things are never exactly as they appear and I’m in love with our love story and that’s all that matters.”
She also noted that David Foster was present during her wedding with Nick Cokas and had even played the piano that day.
“It took me a while to kind of come around to really want to have a real serious relationship because I was very concerned with what people would think, and also I just wasn’t there yet either, too,” she said, explaining her reluctance to be in a relationship with David Foster and how she was upset that the media pegged them as ‘dating’ when they were spotted on a dinner date, even though they weren’t together then.
“There was never one day that I ever doubted my decision to be with him,” McPhee said, “Even if we had an argument or whatever, I’m so crazy in love with him and I’m so grateful… I loved being around him before we were even married.”
It is quite a love story indeed, and now Katharine’s got a beautiful baby boy, and it also happens to be David Foster’s first biological son.
