Congratulations are in order as Emily Ratajkowski welcomes first child with husband Sebastian Bear-McClard.

Emily Ratajkowski Welcomed Baby Sylvester Earlier This Week

The model, actor, and writer who has routinely kept her fans posted throughout her pregnancy posted as recently as last Wednesday that she was “[about] to pop.”

In a Thursday Instagram post, Ratajkowski announced the birth with a photo of her breastfeeding her baby, with the caption “Sylvester Apollo Bear has joined us earthside.” She revealed that the baby was on Monday, writing, ”Sly arrived 3/8/21 on the most surreal, beautiful, and the love-filled morning of my life.”

Ratajkowski confirmed her pregnancy in a Vogue write-up last October but explained why she isn’t announcing the baby’s gender. In the personal essay discussing gender, pregnancy, and parenting, she opened up about how and why she and her husband refused to answer questions about their child’s gender, “When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always, ‘Do you know what you want?’”, she continued, ”We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then.”

“Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who – rather than what – is growing inside my belly.”

She also added how she had concerns about having a boy, revealing her fears that a young child may “gain a sense of entitlement.” She wrote, “I’ve known far too many white men who move through the world unaware of their privilege, and I’ve been traumatized by many of my experiences with them. It’s shocking to realize how early young boys gain a sense of entitlement – to girls’ bodies and to the world in general.”

The “Gone Girl” married Bear-McClard in 2018, announcing her nuptials on Instagram, saying she had “a surprise” to share. She had posted an Instagram story with a selfie of herself getting a kiss from Bear-McClard, with the caption “I got married today,” before following up with a picture of her with her husband after their private New York City Hall wedding ceremony.

After the announcement of the birth, Ratajkowski was flooded with many congratulatory messages on her new motherhood journey with fellow model and mother Ashley Graham commenting: “Welcome to the world Sly!’, singer Halsey, who is currently expecting her first baby, saying: “CONGRATULATIONS MAMA!!!!!” and Amy Schumer who had a baby boy in 2019 joking “When are you going to lose the baby weight?”
