Universal Studios’ Hollywood And Orlando Extend Closures- But What About Disney Parks?

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort extended their closures on Tuesday, March 24 amid to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Both theme parks and their CityWalk attractions will now remain closed until April 19. So, what about Disney parks? Rumors have been swirling that Disneyland and Walt Disney World plan to open on April 1.

Universal Studios Hollywood And Universal Orlando Resort Extended Their Closures

Universal closed its Florida theme park after March 15. As per Deadline, Universal Studios Hollywood, first shut in March 14 due to “an abundance of caution and in response to the guidance provided by the California Department of Public Health,” it revealed. The theme park originally anticipated to reopen by March 28. But now that has changed due to public health concerns.

So much has happened in the past few weeks. The CDC reported the total number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. at 44,183 with 544 deaths. There are over 372,000 cases and 16,000 deaths globally.

“We are extending the closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood through April 19 as we continue to respond to current conditions and make the health and safety of team members and guests our top priority,” Universal said in a statement today.

The Universal Orlando Resort Hotels Have Also Temporarily Suspended Operations

“This includes our theme parks and Universal CityWalk at both destinations. The Universal Orlando Resort hotels have also temporarily suspended operations. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed, based on guidance from health agencies and government officials.”

In addition, Disneyland and Walt Disney World closures could stretch into May, according to analysts. Disney’s theme parks in the U.S. could be open until May, as the nation tries to get the coronavirus pandemic contained, analysts documented in a new research paper, as per The OCR. One of the analysts from JPMorgan estimated that the shutting of Disney’s theme parks in California and Florida could be extended until May 1.

Meanwhile, Disney’s theme parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong closed in late January while Disney theme parks in Japan have been closed since late February. There are no reported reopening dates. The Disneyland Paris resort in Francis closed on March 15 until the end of the month.
