Healthy Food Choices During Pregnancy

Many women struggle with weight gain during pregnancy. Whether they are already overweight, or simply fighting the battle of cravings, it can be tough to maintain a healthy weight gain during pregnancy. To do so, you need Healthy Food Choices During Pregnancy. Choosing good foods to keep you and your baby healthy will help you keep the extra pounds off while keeping your cravings in check.

HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES DURING PREGNANCY

Low Fat Dairy. Things like Greek Yogurt, Skim Milk, Low Fat Cheese and Cottage Cheese are great low fat and high calcium foods you not only will enjoy eating, but need to eat. The protein and calcium in these foods is great for feeding your body with what it needs during pregnancy.

Fresh Fruit. Craving something sweet? Why not have fresh fruit. 3-4 servings of fresh fruit each day is great not only for the extra calories you need, but for satisfying your need for a sweet treat as well as nutrients. Oranges, bananas, apples, kiwi, mango and grapes are all excellent treats that are full of vitamins and nutrients you and your baby need.

Beans. If you are looking for a bit of extra protein or fiber in your diet beans are a great choice. Refried beans in a corn tortilla make a great snack. Chickpeas or black beans ground into a tasty hummus dip with fresh veggies is another option for a quick, easy and healthy snack that packs a good amount of needed calories.

Smoothies. Whether you are having a fresh fruit smoothie, or a smoothie packed full of spinach, kale and greens you have made a great choice. Smoothies are often packed full of nutrients in a creamy blend that satisfies your need for a treat, with ease of drinking on the go.

Eggs. Eggs are great for quick breakfasts, lunches or snacks. Hard boiled eggs are a great easy snack. Not only are the full of protein, they are great source of fats your body needs at this time. This whole food is an excellent food choice during pregnancy.

Instead of choosing the easy and fun junk food this pregnancy, reach for some of these healthy choices. Not only are they sure to satisfy your craving, they will give you the extra 300-500 calories a day you need. Talk to your doctor about what is a reasonable amount of weight to gain during your pregnancy and make great choices with food that will feed you and your baby.
