Did you know Monday is National Coffee Day? I’m definitely going to be celebrating!
Like most people, I love coffee! No, I’m not one of those people who have a coffee mug attached to their hand, but I do need one good cup of coffee each morning. One simple cup of coffee is essential to my day because if I break my ‘caffeine fix’ routine my work (blogging) day tends to be sluggish and all around lacklaster! My drink of choice is a cappuccino, but every once in a while I like to indulge in a sweet coffee.
In celebration of the caffeine-filled day, I was given the chance to test out the new Keurig® 2.0 K500 brewing system which is available for purchase at Staples Canada. The new brewing system allows you to brew a single cup and and a carafe of coffee with the help of the new 2.0 Brewing TechnologyTM. You can brew a K-Cup® pack and K-CarafeTM pack lids with the touch of a button.
The K500 brewing system comes with a touch screen panel that provides additional brewing options. The stronger setting allows you to brew stronger coffee when you really need that extra pick-me-up. There is also a separate setting to brew specialty beverages such as hot cocoa, mochas and chai lattes. This is great for me and my husband who have different taste preferences. He loves strong coffee and a lot of it and I like one really good cup. I also like speciality drinks while my husband enjoys a plain black coffee best.
This was my first Keurig and I found the whole system design much better than other brewing systems. The K-Cup and K-Carafe’s area easy to insert into the coffee maker and they don’t leave cream and coffee behind after being brewed. The last thing I want to do early in the morning is clean my brewing system.
I also like how much choice there is when it comes to coffee blends and speciality flavours. The different selections makes crafting unique drinks like this Pumpkin Spice Latte much easier. One of the most popular flavours of the fall season, this speciality drink is a perfect way to celebrate National Coffee Day. It’s easy to make and will be sure to satisfy your caffeine fix while enjoying a small indulgence.
Ingredients
1 C. milk
2 tbs. canned pumpkin
1-2 tbs. sugar
1 tbs. vanilla
½ tsp. pumpkin pie spice
½ cup coffee – for this recipe I used Green Mountain Breakfast Blend K-Cups; my absolute favorite.
Whipped cream
cinnamon for topping (optional)
Directions –
#1. In a small saucepan, add the milk, sugar, canned pumpkin and spices. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
#2. Pour into your blender and blend well for 1-2 minutes. Pour into a mug and slowly add the hot coffee on the side. Add whipped cream and some extra cinnamon on top.
Enjoy!
