10 Things All Kids Need to Hear

Kids can blossom when they are told the right things. It does not matter if you have the shiniest car in the driveway or the biggest house on the block. What matters is that you fill your child up with love and understanding so they can live a healthy, happy life.

I’m proud of you.

Choosing to do the right thing in life is not always the easy thing to do. When you see that your child has chosen to do the right thing, let them know that you are proud of them for making the right choice. Tell them that even though it does not feel like they are making the right choice at the moment, they will see very soon that it was the right choice.

It is going to be ok.

During difficult times it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As a parent you need to reassure your kids that everything will be ok. Explain to them that this shall pass too.

I’m all ears.

No matter what your schedule holds for the day, ALWAYS make yourself available if your child needs to talk. By making yourself available now to help solve your children’s problems, chances are they will come to you for help when they are older as well.

Let’s see if you can do it.

Giving your child the ability to do things on their own is a key ingredient for them to learn trouble shooting. Our job as parents is to give our kid’s the ability to work out problems that arise in life. Next time your child asks you for help, ask them if they can figure out how to solve the problem.

I love you.

Say I love you every single day. Slip I love you notes in their lunch box or pop a post-it on the bathroom mirror. Expressing your love verbally teaches your kids to express their love as well.

You have what it takes.

You are your child’s number one fan. Build them up. Tell them they have what it takes. Give them the confidence to rise above all the fear and conquer anything that comes their way.

Telling your child no is a great way to set boundaries. When you do use the word no, stick to it. Giving in after you have said no can lead to very persistent, disobedient children.

Say yes as much as you can to your children. When they ask you to play, or take them to the park, do whatever you can to spend those precious moments with them. Before you know it they won’t be asking you anymore.

I’m sorry.

Parents are not perfect. We all make mistakes. Use these opportunities to teach your kids to apologize for the mistakes they have made.

No chores!

Let your kids be kids. Give them the day off from chores every now and then to goof off and play a silly game or hunker down for a movie together.
