Katie Holmes Tries to Give Suri a Normal Life

Katie Holmes goal as a parent is to make sure her 8-year-old daughter Suri Cruise leads a normal life. 

While appearing on the Wednesday’s Today Show to promote her new film The Giver, Holmes admitted she refers to her low-key life growing up in Toledo, Ohio when it comes to raising Suri outside of the media spotlight.

“I think, of course, you try your best,” she said of protecting her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise.“I try very hard because I am very grateful for my upbringing and my parents and siblings. I try to do what they did for me for my little one.” 

Holmes says when it comes to parenting she tries to take focus away from herself and put it on her daughter. 

“The most important thing for me is letting her know how proud I am and that her accomplishments mean everything,” Holmes said. “Whatever I do is whatever. It’s really just about her and that’s what I think is most important.” 

The actress also revealed when it comes to her life she tries to look forward rather than backwards. 

“I never really look back. I just approach life one day at a time,” Holmes said. “I’m really excited about where I am right now, this movie … I’ve had some really wonderful creative experiences. I am just excited about the future.”

The Giver which also stars Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep hits theatres, August 15.
