Family Adventure: Taking Our Baby To The Pool

We took Baby C to the pool for the first time this weekend and he had a blast! We were a little worried that he might not like the water too much since it is colder than the bath water but he LOVED it. He had so much fun in his floater and loved splashing.

It was a pretty hot weekend in the high 80s/low 90s so we were sure to follow all the sun safety tips from the Skin Cancer Foundation. We applied all over his body at least 30 minutes before we headed to the pool. We love California Baby for our whole family because it is a non-chemical sunscreen with UVA-UVB protection. It was our first time applying sunscreen on him and the California Baby sunscreen needs to be rubbed in pretty well or it leaves white residue. I rubbed it in pretty well and was worried when he started rubbing his eyes. Luckily, it’s tear-free which is why we love it so much for our whole family!

Since it was his first time in the pool we didn’t stay longer in than 45 minutes but the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends reapplying after 80 minutes of activity in the water. My husband burns easily so we stick to the 60 minute mark before reapplying.

We are still trying to find a good SPF hat that will fit our little peanut’s head. His head circumference is only at the 40% percentile so a lot of the sun hats are way too big for him – in the meantime, it was a good thing we bought the floater with the sun shade! The best part for me was finally being able to put him in his super cute swim outfit! I love the long-sleeved water shirts because it adds another layer of protection from the sun…and he looks totally adorable with his little pudgy belly.

We can’t wait to head back to the pool next weekend!
