I think when most married couples have a baby everything takes a back seat to the new arrival. Nothing is more important than making sure the baby is cared for and loved at all times. E! Star Giuliana Rancic has a different opinion on things though. She and her husband Bill Rancic, struggled for years to conceive and finally welcomed their son Duke, via a surrogate late last summer.
The couple has spent the last six months adjusting to parenthood but the one thing that hasn’t changed is their priorities. According to US Weekly,
“We’re husband and wife, but we’re also best friends, and it’s funny because a lot of people, when they have kids, they put the baby first, and the marriage second. That works for some people. For us, I find, we put our marriage first and our child second, because the best thing we can do for him is have a strong marriage.”
It’s true that a strong healthy relationship is the core to any family situation so I understand what she’s saying. Is it really putting the baby second though? If the family is supposed to function as a unit anyway then can you really put anyone above anyone else? Is it selfish to say you put your relationship first? Giuliana has talked endlessly about how much she absolutely adores her son and how motherhood is the best thing to ever happen to her so I think she actually seems to be pretty balanced.
How have you managed to keep your relationship strong while juggling a newborn? Babies have a way of throwing everything into a tail spin. Is putting your relationship first the key? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
