Sleeping while pregnancy can be a challenge, especially in the final months. I have had a very difficult time, as I am a belly sleeper normally. Sleeping on your back or stomach is not advised while pregnant, and is not usually comfortable anyway.
Side positions are all that is left, and it can be difficult to get comfortable. Changing positions frequently can help, as can purchasing a pregnancy pillow. I actually use four or five pillows at night. I have one between my legs, one or two behind my back and I use the body pillow for my neck and abdomen. It really helps support my belly and allows me to sleep fairly comfortable most of the night.
There are a variety of pregnancy pillows so you will have to do some research as to what you think will work best for you and is in your price range.
I have a Boppy Total Body Pillow which ran me about $50. Pretty reasonable and it really fits my needs well. Considering I am using it for the second time, I am quite happy with my purchase.
Pregnancy pillows can run up to $200, but I don’t see it necessary to invest so much.
I have also found that propping myself up on the couch with some pillows and taking a nap is quite comfortable. I can rest my leg on the side, which I can’t really do in bed. It is a nice change.
Test out different positions, pillows, and places in your home and see what works best for you. You may be surprised at what is comfortable, when you are so uncomfortable!
