Caroline Berg Eriksen has caused an uproar over this instagram picture – shared just THREE days after giving birth. The controversial post-pregnancy selfie shows off the soccer wife’s flat tummy and tight six pack abs.
Caroline is also the woman behind the biggest fitness blog in Norway, Fotbol Frue. The wife of Norwegian Premier League player, Christian Eriksen, said she was amazed at how fast her body has bounced back after gaining just 22 pounds during her pregnancy.
She told ABC News:
During the pregnancy, people kept telling me that my body will never be the same and I wanted to show everybody that’s not entirely true.
She is 26 years old and says she hasn’t worked out since giving birth.
The new mom took time to pose in lingerie and upload the impressive shot with this caption: “I feel so empty, and still not 4 days after birth.”
The picture has divided public opinion with some women arguing that these images give moms unattainable, and for many, unhealthy standards, to strive towards.
Australia’s Mama Mia blogger, Rebecca Sparrow, called Eriksen’s photo a “disservice.”
This whole situation has become ludicrous. The competition for women to give birth and then immediately remove any trace from their bodies that they ever carried a child is OBSCENE. There is no other word for it. Actually, it’s more than obscene – this ‘Look how hot I still am!’ obsession and need for public endorsement.
Focusing on HOW we look post-baby detracts from how we feel. And THAT is what we need to be concerned about with all new mothers. Motherhood is overwhelming on so many levels. We need to shift this goddamn focus back to the mental health of our mothers.
On the other hand, some have come out in defence of the pics.
One women commented online saying:
I don’t have pictures, but after the birth of my son and then again after the birth of my daughter, my abs looked like that..It’s true. It can be done.
Another woman tweeted:
I think it’s awesome! There should be no outrage over people who take care of themselves. That’s insane!
Should there be outrage over these pics? Do they perpetuate negative pressure for women? Is it ok to focus on our bodies so much after giving birth?
