The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) might be playing into Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) hands, despite believing the opposite. Meanwhile, Diane Jenkins Abbott’s (Susan Walters) plan to seek evidence about the Moustache’s illegal activities is the better option.
Jack’s intentions are good. He thinks that shutting down Jabot for months will prevent Victor from using the stolen artificial intelligence weapon.
Tied to Diane’s desire to arm themselves with information that could lead to criminal charges being leveled against Victor, Jack’s risky move could provide his wife with enough time and space to succeed. But wouldn’t Victor just wait them out and then pounce?
Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) told his dad that Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) is in trouble. So, Victor didn’t hesitate to use the Newman Enterprises jet to fly to Los Angeles, California.
Scenes showing Victor coming face-to-face with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) confirm that this storyline is being elevated to the next soapy level. Nick and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) were losing ground to Matt, which they didn’t expect.
So, Victor had to fly west. Doing so also pushes the AI story farther into December as well.
Jack is right to think that Victor is coming after Jabot. He’s made that threat for years and now has the capacity to end the company John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) founded and left as a legacy for his children and grandchildren.
All of life is transactional for Victor, as Jack said. So, he couldn’t care less about the Abbott’s future. All Victor cares about is double-dealing here and now.
The near future could include Cane Ashby’s (Billy Flynn) nefarious AI tool being used to kill Jabot, even if it’s offline, as Jack termed it. But assuming that can’t happen, why couldn’t Victor simply wait out his nemesis and then strike?
The above open question seems like a plausible flaw in Jack’s theory of self-defense. But with all things soap, the passage of plot time will bring unforeseen possibilities and potentially unexpected outcomes.
Victor invents grudges because of his cranky personality type. Then, he applies the need for vengeance to an enemy, in this case, Jack.
Bergman’s character didn’t nearly kill Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) during her last bender. Jack recklessly put his life at stake when buying and ingesting a substance he used to be addicted to. He wouldn’t have been able to help Nikki if she did something that was similarly foolish.
However, Victor refused to see reality and has harbored the belief that Jack needs to be punished ever since. It’s that base of childlike emotion that might be Victor’s weak spot, which Diane can exploit while Jack protects a dark Jabot.
