K-pop group Stray Kids have been chosen to grace this year’s AMA Awards. They will be doing so as the second K-pop act to perform on the stage, following BTS.
Stray Kids Named As One of Nine Artists Set To Perform On Upcoming 50th AMA Awards Ceremony
For its Oct. 6 ‘American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special,’ CBS and DIck Clark Productions have shared the names of nine artists that will take the stage during the event. The artists are Mariah Carey, Green Day, Stray Kids, Jennifer Hudson, Kane Brown, Raye, Gladys Knight, Brad Paisley and Chaka Khan.
The award show is hailed as one of the top three music awards ceremonies held in America, alongside Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards. According to reports, Stray Kids was tapped as the best group to do a salute to boybands at the special ceremony.
Carey will be gracing the stage to perform a medley of songs from her
“The Emancipation of Mimi” album as a nod to the album’s 20th anniversary. Hudson will be paying a tribute to the icon Whitney Houston, who won 22 AMAs in her lifetime.
Per the press release, “The 50th anniversary special will air live on CBS coast-to-coast on Oct. 6, being seen live from 8-10 p.m. on the east coast and 5-7 p.m. on the west coast. It can also be seen at that time, or on demand, by Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers; Paramount+ Essential subscribers will be able to view it the next day.”
Last year, Stray Kids won “Top K-Pop Album” category at the Billboard Music Awards and “Best K-Pop Video” at the MTV Video Music Awards. Currently, the eight-boy band is on tour, having kicked off their world tour ‘dominATE’ in Seoul this past August. On September 28, they performed to a lively audience at Singapore’s National Stadium.
From there, they will visit Melbourne and Sydney, Australia next month and Kaohsiung, Taiwan in November.
