General Hospital (GH) spoilers suggest that the land of Port Charles is dealing with the explosive fallout of the Metro Court pool incident that resulted in Kristina Corinthos-Davis’s (Kate Mansi) life-threatening injuries and the loss of the baby she was carrying.
Deep in this storyline is Kristina’s sister, Molly Lansing-Davis, and the character’s portrayer, Kristen Vaganos, recently sat down with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to talk about Molly’s world (and some other things).
GH spoilers suggest that as parents Molly and TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) grapple with the loss of their baby girl, Vaganos acknowledges both characters are grieving their daughter’s death differently.
She states that while Molly is burying herself into work and staying distracted so she can pretend that “everything is fine, ” TJ feels abandoned because he needs Molly right now, and she isn’t feeling the loss enough to help him cope and deal with it.
She’s skirted out of the logistics the couple has had to organize, including emptying the baby’s room and organizing their daughter’s funeral, leaving TJ to handle it all on his own.
On top of everything else, Molly isn’t just grieving the loss of a daughter she’ll never get to see grow up, she’s also struggling with the idea that Kristina isn’t innocent in the situation that led to the baby’s passing.
Vaganos states that what makes this situation so complicated for her character is that she hasn’t had any time to digest the situation. She found out her baby died at the same time her sister was fighting for her life, while also wondering if Kristina would ever be able to have kids of her own.
Kristen notes to SOD the scene where Molly finds out Kristina is going to be okay, but then learns details that her sister might have been the aggressor in her face-off with Ava Jerome (Maura West).
This has Molly feeling conflicted, and Vaganos goes on to say, “Molly has spent the entire pregnancy telling TJ, ‘We can trust Kristina, you’ve got to just let her be,’ and now she’s humiliating me and making feel crazy and wrong for ever having trusted her.
I think what’s really hard for Molly is that she’s so smart and she’s such a planner and she’s so in control and she makes the right decisions, and so to feel like, ‘I should have known better and the person I wanted to trust with everything let me down’ is a horribly disappointing feeling.”
Being a recast is never an easy thing, and slipping into Molly’s shoes last year wasn’t an easy task; however, Vaganos has nailed the role. SOD pointed out the online praise the actress has received from fans, in which Kristen responded by saying that the positive viewer reaction has warmed her heart and has been really sweet.
She adds, “I know [recasts] happen on soaps all the time but still, the way I came to this role was such a cumbersome thing for audiences who’ve loved this character and loved this show forever, the fact that after a bunch of new faces all in a row, I came, and I stayed.
So, the fact that they’ve accepted me — and beyond that, are actually really enjoying me in the role — is really validating. The compliments mean so much and the fact that they have accepted me means the world.”
