Will Jack Thornton Return to When Calls the Heart

The Season 11 finale aired on June 23. Hearties are still buzzing over the cliffhanger. They have theories about Jack Thornton’s return. At the end of the episode, Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) spoke with Superintendent Hargaves (David James Lewis).

Hargaves worked as Nathan’s superior officer at Fort Clay. One of the men was suspended from a mission. That same man killed Elizabeth’s late husband Jack Thornton. Nathan had to sit out of the position. Jack took over his position and was killed in a landslide.

Nathan was transferred to Hope Valley. He felt responsible for Elizabeth and her son, Jack Jr. The two have officially become a couple. Hargraves last appeared on When Calls the Heart in Season 8. Nathan’s connection to Jack came out and caused him to break up with Elizabeth.

Hargraves returned to Hope Valley. He revealed to Nathan that he was there to speak with Elizabeth. Hargraves turned to her and told her he had news about her late husband. He also mentioned that this matter needed to be discussed in private.

When Calls the Heart Season 11 Ends On Cliffhanger

Unfortunately, the credits rolled before fans could learn more about this news. Hearties have already speculated about Jack’s fate. He might not be dead after all.

Some fans took to Reddit to tease the idea that he could still be alive. However, others are convinced the writers want to keep him deceased.

Showrunner Lindsay Sturman quickly shut down the theories. She spoke to TV Guide Magazine about the Season 11 finale.

“Jack is not coming back, but we did want to keep his memory alive,” she said. “From the beginning of the show, it was a story about widows and for Little Jack, as he’s hitting these milestones growing up, how does Elizabeth keep Jack alive for Little Jack and hold his memory and the complexity of that when she’s in a relationship? It was a way to complicate [Elizabeth and Nathan’s] new situation, which ends on a sweet note and then, oh no, there’s this new complexity.”
