The Young and The Restless spoilers and updates pose a question-is Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) really as reformed as she’s seemed to be?
Or even now, is she just playing Jack Abbott, (Peter Bergman) not to mention her son, and the rest of Genoa City?
It’s no secret to longtime viewers that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Diane will never be besties, although they’ve been civil more recently.
We might as well expect to witness flying pigs before these two bury the hatchet; their past is riddled with deceit, backstabbing, ex-husbands in common, and just plain animosity.
Let’s not overlook the fact that Diane once set up Nikki for her own murder by faking her demise with the help of Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan).
Nikki had no hesitation teaming up with Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) in their unsuccessful scheme to bring Diane down when she came back to town.
Even though the plan fell through, Nikki’s stance on Diane remains unchanged, as revealed in an episode airing the week of July 22.
Nikki confides in Jack about Diane’s success in Genoa City, which mirrors Nikki’s own desires. As they chat at the Athletic Club, Nikki vents about Victor and Newman Media, while Jack listens attentively, likely gathering information for the inevitable clash with his rival.
The conversation shifts to Jack’s family drama, with Kyle’s anger towards Diane and his new role at Glissade causing turmoil at Jabot.
When Nikki chimes in, everything takes a turn for the worse. Despite Diane’s claims of innocence in coming back to Genoa City, Nikki points out that Diane seems to have achieved everything she wanted.
Nikki continues to state her case, reminding Jack that Diane not only succeeded in marrying Jack, but she also secured a prestigious position at Jabot.
Jack is deeply offended by the implication that Diane is a schemer and opportunist, leading him to confront Nikki-insisting Diane returned to Genoa City to reconnect with her son.
Nikki argues that if Diane truly cared about building a strong bond with Kyle, she wouldn’t have terminated his employment at Jabot.
Despite the escalating tension, Jack stands by his wife and prepares to walk away, only for Nikki to backtrack slightly in an attempt to diffuse the situation. Nikki cares about Jack which he realizes, and she doesn’t want her best male friend to be upset.
It’s worth considering whether Nikki’s point is valid. Could Diane be up to her old tricks with Jack? In the past, Diane was known for her manipulative ways, like when she got pregnant with Kyle through insemination, hoping it was Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) child. Even though it turned out to be Jack’s, her intentions were clear.
Since her return, Diane has been on her best behavior, trying to show she has changed. But is it all just an act-only time will tell, but it’s definitely something to think about.
