According to the show, Jill has been getting treatment and has allowed Bill Abbott (Jason Thompson) to take over for her at Chancellor-Winters. What is the real reason that Jess has been MIA?

Jill Abbott Has Been A Powerhouse For Decades

The Young And The Restless Spoilers indicate that Jill has been an icon for years and that isn’t likely to stop anytime soon. However, Jill isn’t seen on screen nearly as much as she used to be.

In the 80s and 90s when you turned on the tv, Jill was front and center in almost every storyline. That isn’t the case these days.

Jill first appeared in Genoa City in 1973 played by Brenda Dickson who had the role until 1980. Deborah Adair took over the role and played Jill off and on until 1986.

However, Jill really began to grow on fans in 1987 when Jess Walton took over. Jill was best known for her ongoing feud with Katherine Chancellor (Jeanie Cooper).

Y&R Spoilers: From Enemies To Frenemies

Jeanie Cooper played Katherine from 1973 until her death in 2013. During this time, Jill and Katherine went from enemies to frenemies. At one point, it was even thought that they were mother and daughter.

However, that was later proven wrong. Jill and Katherine’s feud was the longest feud in soap opera history.

These days, Jill isn’t seen very much at all and fans are beginning to ask why. Rumor has it that Jess Walton walked off the set in 2009 when the show wanted to reduce her pay.

Both sides finally came to an agreement and Walton remained on the show. Today, Jill is fighting some unnamed illness that has fans wondering if she is done with the show.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Jess Walton Is Rarely On In Person

Jill rarely pops up in Genoa City these days and when she does it is on video chat. Jess appeared in person in 2023 to have it out with Mamie Johnson (Veronica Reed) over company stakes.

Walton did reunite with some of her costars for the Y&R 50th anniversary celebration. According to Monsters and Critics Walton has retired and lives in Oregon explaining the video visits.

Walton occasionally makes a guest appearance on the soap. June marks 37 years since Walton appeared on the show. Jess isn’t likely to come out of retirement and go back to the show full time.
