Young and the Restless Spoilers: Michelle Stafford Talks Daytime Emmy Nod, Phyllis’s Meltdown Scores Nomination

Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers indicate many fans of the CBS soap are ecstatic over all the Daytime Emmy nods the show has received this year, as the nominees were recently announced.

Now the countdown for the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards is on, and the big ceremony takes place on Friday, June 7.

Whether you love or hate Phyllis Summers, most can agree that actress Michelle Stafford deserves her recent Daytime Emmy nomination for the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama: Actress, and many are hoping she snags the award. Stafford recently talked to Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about the nod.

Y&R Spoilers: Michelle Stafford Reveals What Reel She Submitted

When talking to SOD, Stafford reveals that actors/actresses do not submit episodes for Daytime Emmy nominations, anymore, and as she puts it, “it’s not full shows”. She adds that she did a “culmination of Phyllis spinning out and then pleading” not to go jail.

So, it seems, Phyllis’s meltdown from the Genoa City bi-centennial gala where she faked her own death to bring Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) down (and then got caught for the scheme), is what landed Stafford the Daytime Emmy nod. While the story was controversial, Stafford, as always, was flawless during her scenes.

Y&R Spoilers: Michelle Stafford’s Stiff Competition

Michelle is up against the “best of the best” leading ladies in soap operas, including Tamara Braun (Ava Vitali, Days of Our Lives, Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan, Bold and the Beautiful), Annika Noelle (Hope Logan, Bold and Beautiful), as well as former co-star and good friend, Finola Hughes (Anna Devane, General Hospital), and Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves, General Hospital).

Interestingly enough, Cynthia Watros has been nominated for a GH role she took over for Michelle; one that Michelle Stafford originated on the soap.

All the ladies in this group had a stellar year, so it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top!
