Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates tease the evolution of Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun). Ava has a rich history in Salem from her introduction in 2008, making it totally understandable if some fans are in need of a quick recap!
As previously mentioned, the character made her debut in February 2008 with Tamara Braun taking on the role, although she left a few months later.
After a brief exit in August of the same year, she returned as a different character, Taylor Walker, in 2011, only to come back as Ava in December 2015. Her demise in March 2016 was short-lived, miraculously resurfacing in November 2020.
Ava found herself in the “resurrection warehouse” in Nashville, where a dramatic explosion occurred, leaving Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) trapped and also presumed dead.
Despite exiting the canvas in December 2022, Ava’s return in August 2023 was less surprising, considering her history of coming back from the dead.
Ava, a mysterious woman from Steve Johnson’s (Stephen Nichols) past, caused chaos when she stalked his family during their trip to Ireland. By sabotaging their plane, she inadvertently caused the death of Shawn Brady (Frank Parker).
Mistakenly believing Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) was Steve’s wife, Kayla Brady, (Mary Beth Evans) Ava kidnapped her and brought her to Salem; Steve was able to reason with Ava, rescuing Hope.
It was later discovered that Ava’s erratic behavior was due to the pills she had been taking; Ava’s cousin Angelo Vitali (Angelo Tiffe) ratted out her father, Martino Vitali (Joe Penny). Yes, Ava’s own father had been responsible for her drugging!
Ava decided to leave her troubled past behind after her father’s death at the hands of Bo Brady (Peter Reckell)-she then began a romantic relationship with John Black (Drake Hogestyn).
However, when faced with criminal charges related to a plane crash, Ava chose to flee the country instead of facing the consequences, living as a foreign fugitive.
In 2015, Ava returned to Salem and manipulated Joey Johnson (then James Lastovic, more recently Tanner Stine) into helping her with a revenge scheme to reunite his parents.
Over time, Joey developed feelings for Ava, but she rejected him, claiming she was dying from leukemia. Kayla was shocked to discover Joey and Ava together and cautioned him to keep his distance, but he refused.
Joey was taken aback when his father, Steve, revealed the shocking truth about Ava’s actions; not only did she commit a series of crimes, but there was also another possibility.
Rumblings of Ava having given birth to had Steve’s love child started; in a desperate attempt to save Kayla, Ava resorted to extreme measures by kidnapping her and threatening Steve.
Despite Joey’s dismay, Steve agreed to Ava’s demands-however, when Joey discovered Ava’s plan to frame his mother for a crime she didn’t commit, he took matters into his own hands. In a drunken state, Joey entered Ava’s hospital room and ended her life to protect his family, but she wasn’t as dead as they thought!
One year later, Steve discovered that his son with Ava was actually alive, contrary to what they had believed, named Tripp Dalton (Lucas Adams).
He brought Tripp back to Salem to reunite him with his at least part of his birth family, although Ava was still presumed dead. Steve took responsibility for Ava’s murder, covering for Joey stating it was under ISA orders, but Tripp suspected he was protecting someone else; shockingly, Tripp thought Steve was covering for Kayla.
Tripp responded by seeking revenge by attempting to kill her, but eventually, the truth came out, only to reveal that Ava was not as deceased as everyone had assumed.
Ava attempted to conceal her return from the dead, but her secret was quickly exposed, leading to her arrest. Fortunately, she managed to negotiate an agreement with Kayla: no charges would be pressed against Joey as long as she refrained from pressing charges against Ava.
Then Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) Sami Brady’s (Alison Sweeney) showed up in Salem pregnant and accused Tripp of raping her, later remembering it was Charlie Dale (Mike Manning) Ava’s other son.
Ava immediately transformed into a fierce protector, unleashing her inner mama bear to shield Tripp from harm; Ava wasted no time in pointing the finger at Charlie firmly asserting his guilt.
She highlighted the undeniable DNA evidence that linked him to the crime, emphasizing the fact that he and Tripp were brothers.
Ava managed to get Charlie to admit to the crime and urged him to go to the police to exonerate Tripp. In a desperate move, Charlie falsely accused his mother of showing favoritism.
In a shocking turn of events, Charlie resorted to violence by knocking Ava unconscious and kidnapping and drugging her!
Fortunately, Rafe Hernandez came to her rescue and offered her a safe haven by inviting her to live with him; when Charlie was found dead, Ava found herself under suspicion.
As it turned out, Ava was innocent of the murder, eventually, Ava and Rafe succumbed to their emotions, going out on a date and later becoming intimate.
Ava’s life took a dramatic turn when she assisted Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) in evading the police, only to deceive her new partner about it. Despite Rafe’s reassurances of his loyalty to her,
Ava couldn’t shake off her jealousy towards his bond with Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). Things escalated when she collaborated with Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) to blackmail Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus), leading to Kristen blackmailing her in return for help in escaping prison.
Rafe ended their relationship after Ava framed him, and she soon found herself entangled in a web of deceit with Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien). When Ava faced arrest, she struck a deal to expose Gwen in exchange for immunity.
Ava’s life took an unexpected turn when she decided to move in with Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) who she knew from Philadelphia as Jake Lambert. Initially, their relationship was purely platonic, but that didn’t last for long and the two fell in love, but that didn’t last for long either. Tragically, just as Jake proposed to Ava, he was tragically killed by a drug dealing mugger who wanted the ring-he was shot and died in Ava’s arms.
In a twist of events, Gabi, who’d previously been married to Jake’s twin, convinced Ava to pretend that she and Jake were already married before his untimely demise. This allowed Ava to maintain control of his DiMera stock, leading her to move into the grand family mansion but she nearly had a breakdown seeing Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash) alive!
Ava was already spiraling after Jake dying in her arms when she saw Stefan, who’d received Jake’s heart after Rolf keeping him alive for several years mechanically. While residing in the mansion, Ava formed a bond with Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman), who stood up for her against his father EJ DiMera (Dan Feurreriegel).
Unfortunately, Ava’s time in the mansion was short-lived as she was eventually thrown out, leading to asking Johnny to move in, and they grew closer, and even shared a passionate kiss.
However, they decided to pump the brakes and just when it seemed like Ava and Johnny found their way back into the DiMera estate, EJ exposed Ava’s fake marriage to Jake. He wasted no time in kicking her out once again, threatening to involve the police if she didn’t leave Salem immediately.
Ava’s sanity was diminishing as she hallucinated Charlie encouraging her to take extreme actions, and sought Xander Cook’s (Paul Telfer) help in kidnapping EJ’s mother, Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk).
But the plan quickly spiraled out of control, as in a dramatic turn of events, Ava ended up driving off a cliff with Susan in the car!
Despite managing to escape the vehicle before the crash, Ava’s vendetta against EJ continued as she planted a bomb at the church set to explode during Susan’s funeral.
However, her plans were foiled when Tripp caught sight of her, causing a delay that resulted in Ava being present when the bomb detonated.
Miraculously surviving the explosion, Ava’s mental state deteriorated further as she continued to be haunted by Charlie, prompting her transfer to Bayview for psychiatric treatment.
In August of 2023, Ava was shocked to find Harris Michaels (Steve Burton) at the facility, mistaking him for Charlie and adamantly refusing to let him near her.
Despite the trauma of Susan’s passing, during hypnosis with Marlena Evans (Dedire Hall), Ava recollected that she was indeed alive; when EJ sent a hit man, Harris intervened, foiling the attempt.
Ava and Harris managed to flee from Bayview, guided by a vision of Susan to London, encountering her former spouse, Edmund Crumb (Adam Caine), who attempted to lock them up also! Fortunately, they were all rescued, and Susan chose not to press charges against Ava.
Harris and Ava shared a passionate kiss, finally admitting their true feelings for each other-however, their happiness was short-lived as Clyde Weston (James Read) blackmailed Ava.
She was threatened with Tripp’s safety if she didn’t run the Bistro as a front for his drug operation, working for his man Gil Carter (David S. Lee). When he was killed, Stefan was drafted to take his place, Clyde threatening Gabi in prison where she is after false murder charges.
To protect Harris, Ava and Stefan pretended to be in a fake relationship. Despite their efforts, they ended up sleeping together while intoxicated.
Determined to take down Clyde, Ava teamed up with Harris, but he was shot in the process by Stefan, under pressure from Clyde. Finally, when Tripp and his serious girlfriend Wendy Shin (Victoria Grace) were kidnapped, Ava sought help from Steve; Clyde demanded they free him from jail or Tripp and Wendy were dead!
Although Steve and John had a plan to stop Clyde, Ava and her cousins made big mistakes and let him and his girlfriend, dirty cop Rebecca Goldman (Kristy St. John) escape.
Fortunately, they were able to rescue Tripp and Wendy, with Ava helping Harris recover from his injuries. In the end, they found solace in each other’s arms, reigniting their love, fugitive Clyde recently tasking them with retrieving Gil’s black book from the now closed Bistro!
