Sharon and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) had been each other’s first love, until Nick cheated on her with Phyllis and she became pregnant with Summer.

Summer’s barely even divorced from Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Sharon thinks Summer is looking for stability and quite likely on the rebound.

Chance took Summer to a concert when he had an extra ticket because Sharon was unable to go-that was fine with Sharon, she understood he didn’t want to waste the ticket.

Chance has been going through some changes lately, from considering going into the business world after getting shot and leaving law enforcement after being in it for many years.

He’d gone from the FBI to settling down in Genoa City when he married Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) to shutting down his private eye business to join the GCPD.

Then he’d been drafted into an overseas op again, with much guilt after not being able to save his men from a bombing-it took months for him to be right again. Summer tells Sharon that Chance makes her feel safe.

Sharon is not trying to be mean to Summer she’s just trying to get her to think about this a little bit-is Summer looking for a dad? Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) hasn’t left town, he’s her dad, Chance is Sharon’s boyfriend and her cousin Abby’s ex-husband.

She wants Summer to understand where her feelings for Chance are coming from, and she doesn’t think they’re coming from a place of needing companionship.

Chance does have a way of making someone feel safe, but that’s coming from his law enforcement work he’s done for years. Chance was in the FBI and working for the Pentagon before Summer was even born!
