There was a time when it seemed like Sonny loathed Ava with every fiber of his being, but he’s definitely shown a softer side toward her lately.

Even when Ava admitted she’d lied and spilled the story of how she got tangled up with Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) and Mason Gatlin’s (Nathanyael Grey) boss, Sonny controlled his anger and focused on helping Ava instead of spinning out.

Sonny cares about Ava as the mother of his child and perhaps appreciates that she’s the type of person who doesn’t mind when he gets ruthless with his enemies. It’s easy to see how the writers could push Sonny in Ava’s direction romantically if they wanted to.

Sonny is engaged to Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), but their relationship is headed into rocky territory thanks to all the secrets she’s keeping.

Although it’s certainly possible that Sonny will reunite with Carly, where does that leave Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison)? Assuming Drew’s early release happens like Carly wants, will she really just drop him like a hot potato and go back to Sonny?

If the show chooses to do something else instead, maybe Sonny and Ava could become a real couple. Ava is one of Nina’s only friends, so it would certainly sting if she lost Sonny to her – even temporarily.

Most fans are getting tired of Nina and Carly’s conflict since their scenes feel so repetitive. It’d be nice to change it up and give Nina a new sparring partner, so the writers could reignite the hostility between Ava and Nina instead.

Ava could use a romantic shakeup as well, so maybe Sonny could become her new man down the road!
