General Hospital Spoilers reveal Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) will soon face a setback in his plan to stick it to his father by rescuing his future half-sibling from ever having to know him. Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) has not been the picture of a good father to Spencer. He has continually put himself first and Spencer last.
He has chosen countless women over Spencer, and he even let his own son think he was dead for four years while he chased his family fortune instead of raising him. Nikolas’ selfishness knows no bounds, and Spencer thinks he can spare his little brother or sister from having to experience the same fate with his father that he has. He may have a shot at it, too, but not if he doesn’t get his ducks in a row enough to prove he can provide a stable home for the child.
Spencer is about to shock everyone he knows with the news that he intends to seek custody of his future half-sibling. Who could possibly want to be responsible for the offspring of such a disastrous couple as Nikolas and Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl)? Spencer is going after custody because he thinks the child will be better off not having Nikolas as a father.
At least, that’s what he claims, but there certainly seems to be resentment lurking beneath the surface that makes it hard to believe he doesn’t have at least some malicious reasons for attacking his father in this way. Is the baby just leverage and a tool to stick it to his dad?
When Nikolas finds out about Spencer’s plans, he will be floored. He will struggle to believe his own son would do this to him. In addition, he will be taken aback by the level of support from members of his own family who have chosen to rally behind Spencer in advance of this announcement — allowing Nikolas to be ambushed and standing behind the young Cassadine instead of his dad.
When Nikolas resorts to mocking Spencer’s attempts, he might make a few valid points. Spencer isn’t really his own man yet. Sure, he has a trust fund, but Spencer has nothing of his own. No home, no career, no purpose, and no family.
In an effort to be honest with himself about what he is up against, Spencer will take his father’s words to heart. He knows Nikolas isn’t wrong. Spencer doesn’t have any of those things, and his aunt, Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), might be the first to point out that Nikolas had some things to say that hit home. How can Spencer be a better father to this child if he can’t meet his or her basic needs?
This will spur a conversation between Spencer and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) that takes their game of pretending to be in a relationship to a whole new level. When Spencer and Trina elope — on telling everyone what they’ve done after the fact — it will stun all who love them. Is this really the best way to set the stage for a custody hearing, and will the judge see through their last-ditch attempt to look like a stable family ready for a child?
