Chrissy Teigen posts a lengthy Twitter thread bidding goodbye to her followers and deletes her account.
The 35-year-old model who has been well-known to go viral with her tweets, took to Twitter on Wednesday, March 24, to announce that she is quitting the platform. Teigen explained her reasons behind leaving the app in a lengthy thread.
Chrissy Teigen bids adieu to Twitter posting a lengthy thread explaining her reasons. She wrote, “For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends,” adding “But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”
The model, who has always openly spoken her mind, continued that she feels pained by the negativity in the platform, explaining that despite her reputation as the “strong clap back girl,” she feels “pain” when she can’t make people happy. She shared that she believes her “fear of pissing people off” has transformed her into “a different human than I started out here as!”
The Lip Sync Battle co-host – whose Instagram account and the Twitter account for her food-centric venture Cravings still appear to be active- also urged her followers to remember how powerful their words can be. She said, “For years I have taken so many small, 2-follower count punches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised.”
She went on that while she has learned a lot and has been held accountable for various mistakes she’s made on the platform, one thing she hasn’t “learned is how to block out the negativity,” concluding the post by saying, “I’m just a sensitive–t, okay!? I don’t wanna be this way! I just am! But I love you guys and I cherish our time together, I truly do. I also hate you,” ending with heart emoji, before deleting the account.
Teigen follows Alec Baldwin who quit the social platform, earlier this month after trolls attacked him about the birth of his sixth child.
Teigen who has always remained one of the most prolific celebrity users, making headlines for putting trolls in their place, was famously blocked by Donald Trump on Twitter in July 2017. The star who had initially posted a public plea for President Joe Biden to follow her, she asked him to unfollow her last month, citing that “it just became too much,” in a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon.
Not the first celebrity to walk away from the contentious nature of Twitter, Teigen joins Alec Baldwin who shared earlier this month that he had deleted his Twitter because the app is “where all the a–holes in the United States and beyond go to get their advanced degrees in a–hole-iness.”
