Nepal Eases Travel Restrictions To Welcome Visitors

Travelers who have received both doses of the COVID vaccine are now welcome to visit Nepal and all its many wonders.

Up until recently, anyone wishing to visit Nepal had to submit a negative PCR test three days prior to their arrival. However, those who test positive are mandated to quarantine in a hotel at their own cost. However, with most countries running a vaccine program, the country now welcomes visitors who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The decision was taken by the Tourism Ministry in order to boost the tourism sector in Nepal.

New Travel Guidelines For Nepal

According to the website of the Tourism Ministry of Nepal, the new travel guidelines mandate that visitors will still submit a negative PCR test three days prior to their arrival. However, passengers are also required to submit proof of having received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Visitors will undergo the PCR test at their own cost after their arrival in Nepal and must isolate in a hotel until the results come through. If the test result is negative, tourists can then continue with their travel plans. However, should the test report come back positive, despite the vaccine, visitors will be forced to stay in a hotel at the own cost and remain in quarantine?

On-Arrival Visas For Tourists

Following a year of the COVID-19 pandemic, on-arrival visas for tourists have resumed. International travelers can apply for visas at Nepal’s embassies and diplomatic missions in their own countries. Should travelers not have access to this facility in their own country and find themselves facing difficulties in getting visas, they can apply for on-arrival visas at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport.

Four documents must be submitted to apply for the visa to visit Nepal. One will be proof of a hotel reservation in the country and another will prove the visitor’s completed vaccinations. Travelers will also need to furnish a copy of a recommendation letter issued by the Nepal Tourism Board and Department of Tourism as well as proof of a negative PCR test and travel insurance.

A statement from the ministry said, “The airlines should permit the passengers coming to Nepal after checking these four documents. This new rule replaces all the travel rules issued by the government earlier.”

Nepal As A Travel Destination

While all the necessary precautions involved in visiting Nepal can seem daunting, visitors will find this all worthwhile. Nepal combines Himalayan views, charming hill villages, and jungle wildlife and is a trekker’s paradise. Those who love mountains will truly appreciate the Nepal Himalaya with its iconic hiking trails to Everest and the Annapurnas. Visitors will enjoy incredible mountain scenery while looking forward to a hot meal in their cozy lodge at the end of the day.

For those who love adventure sports, there is nothing quite like rafting on a Nepali river or bungee jumping into a Himalayan gorge. Other sports include climbing, canyoning, paragliding, mountain biking, and kayaking through some of the most dramatic landscapes in the world.

Medieval Cities

For those who enjoy visiting sacred sites and medieval cities, Nepal has all this and more. Visitors can stroll through the medieval city squares of Patan, Kathmandu, and Bhaktapur, taking in the sights. Alternatively, they can join Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims on a spiritual stroll around the ancient monasteries and stupas.

The Kathmandu Valley offers an amazing collection of palaces, temples, and hidden backstreet shrines to explore. On top of this, Nepal is the best place to learn everything about Tibetan Buddhism

Other options include visiting the national parks and jungles to see exotic bird species, as well as tigers, rhinos, and crocodiles. Here visitors can enjoy a safari in central Chitwan or the more remote Bardia or Kashi Tappu.

Generally speaking, Nepal has something for every traveler, with its many beautiful landscapes and fascinating attractions.
