10 Things To Do With The Kids In Romania

When thinking about Romania, many associate it with tales about vampires and Dracula. While these things are memorable, there is so much more that Romania has to offer it’s visitors, especially families. From fascinating culture and amazing nature to intoxicating medieval history and delicious foods, there are plenty of things to do with the kids in Romania.

1. Liberty Bear Sanctuary

This sanctuary houses over 70 different bears found abused in circuses or other negative conditions and abandoned in the wild. It is a private initiative that attempts to create a habitat as close to a bear’s natural way of life as possible. The bears can often be seen playing and resting by the fresh water pools or open meadows.

2. The Mocanita Steam Train

This wonderful train is located in the northern region of Maramures. It travels at low speeds through the Vaser Valley and was once used for forest exploitation before it was abandoned. Now converted into a tourist activity, this locomotive is over 100 years old. In fact, you can choose from four routes, each of which passes through beautiful parts of Romania.

3. Adventura Park

This amazing park as 15 different routes that cater to several different difficulty levels. Your family can participate in many different challenges and obstacles, some of which are suitable for your younger children too. Boasting many activities like ziplining on the 307 meter long track, tree climbing and hiking, you are sure to enjoy a day of adventure at Adventura Park.

4. Dracula Castle

In order to fully take in the experience of Romania, a visit to Bran Castle is a must. This castle is an impressive medieval fortress located in Transylvania and perched atop a hill. When you visit you can climb the defense walls and towers to take in the amazing landscapes that surround the castle. Your children can also enjoy learning about the legends of vampires and exploring the spooky windy staircases.

5. The Berca Mud Volcanoes

Located in Buzau County, these volcanoes make for an amazing, picturesque landscape. These volcanoes provide an amazing atmosphere as there are constant mud eruptions. Your children will love watching them explode.

6. The Black Sea Coast

Enjoy the beach and soak up some rays at a Romanian resort on the Black Sea. The crystal green water and golden sand is a beautiful sight to see. You can also find suitable camping areas along the beaches as well. 7. Peles Castle

8. Sighisoara Citadel

Located in the heart of Transylvania lives a small city. Home to one of the best-preserved citadels in Europe, it has become a popular attraction for families. Known for its amazingly preserved walled old town, it is a must visit. The colourful houses make it an amazing place to explore on foot. In fact, you can even experience guided tours to learn more about its heritage.

9. Sarmizegetusa Regia

Give your children an exciting history lesson without the necessity of a classroom at Sarmizegetusa Regia. What was once the capital of the Dacian Empire is now remnants of a fortress rich with ancient history. Holding 3 structures that were once fortifications, worship temples and village areas, there is a lot to see and learn.

10. Corvin Castle

Everything you could ever want a castle to be, Corvin Castle stands tall with its moats, turrets and fortifications. In fact, it is one of the largest castles in all of Europe. Your children will be in awe as they tour this property.
There are many things to do with kids in Romania. Just make sure that you get creative and take in as many of the sites as you can. Especially the castles.
