Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Will Not Have Custody Of Their Children

While there’s no doubt that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be very loving parents to their future children, there’s a new report that says they technically won’t have custody of them. That’s because there’s an unusual custody agreement between Queen Elizabeth and her grandchildren. As a matter of fact, Prince William and Kate Middleton don’t have custody of their three children as well: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Here’s why.

Apparently, the sovereign has legal custody of the minor grandchildren, which means, in simple terms, Queen Elizabeth is the legal guardian of all her children, grandchildren and in this case, great-grandchildren. It’s part of a 300 years old law that was passed by a majority of 10 out of 12 judges way back in 1717. It decided that the monarch’s “right of supervision extended to his grandchildren and this right of right belongs to His Majesty, King of the Realm, even during their father’s lifetime.”

Royal expert Marlene Koening recently told News.com.au in an interview, “This goes back to King George I [who ruled in the early 1700s], and the law’s never been changed. He did it because he had a very poor relationship with his son, the future King George II, so they had this law passed that meant the King was the guardian of his grandchildren.”
