The origins of chocolate can first be traced back to the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations in Central America. These days it comes in many forms and flavors, and is made in the form of a paste or solid block made from roasted and ground cacao seeds that are typically sweetened.
And while everyone has a favorite chocolate, the top brands in the world include Cadbury, Toblerone, Galaxy, Ferrero Rocher, and so much more. Of course, the best brand chocolate can also be heavily argued. Many Europeans love their Kinder, Milka and Lindt, while Americans are convinced that Godiva, Hershey and Nestle taste the best. Either way, one thing is for certain: no one can deny the rich, satisfying taste of chocolate.
1) Chocolate can help you relax in more ways than one. The smell of chocolate increases theta brain waves, which triggers relaxation. Researchers will even agree that chocolate is also a great food for those living with anxiety and stress. Chocolate reduces cortisol – the stress hormone that causes anxiety symptoms.
2) Here’s something many people probably didn’t know: white chocolate isn’t technically chocolate, as it contains no cocoa solids or cocoa liquor. But this hasn’t stopped chocolate lovers from indulging in the sweet. In fact, dark chocolate is a suspension of cocoa solids, sugar, emulsifiers, and flavorings like vanilla in cocoa butter. White chocolate simply swaps out the cocoa solids for milk solids, but it’s still loaded with cocoa butter.
3) It takes approximately 400 cacao beans to make one pound of chocolate. What’s more, the average serving of milk chocolate has about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of decaf coffee. There is even chocolate-flavored coffee to help kick start your day in the mornings. As a matter of fact, Starbucks offers Caffe Mocha, Hot Chocolate, Skinny Mocha or White Chocolate Mocha on their menus.
4) Don’t feel guilty about having a piece of chocolate after your meal. Research says that chocolate can be enjoyed as part of a balanced, heart-healthy diet. Recent studies have shown that chocolate is actually good for you too. It’s thought to lower stress and decrease the chance of heart attack, stroke, and diabetes.
