Books To Read With Your Kids This Summer

Encouraging your kids to read is easy with this list of 7 Books To Read With Your Kids This Summer. Not only will they thrive on the time spent with you, these stories will help them to develop a new sense of wonder with the joy of reading. You can teach them values, imagination, and creativity with the right list of books.

To Kill a Mockingbird  This is a read for older kids, tweens, and teens due to the subject matter, but is an excellent choice in books to read with your kids this summer. Taking a deep look at how race and judgment hurt individuals is necessary for your children to understand not only how far we have come as a society, but how far we still have to go.

Where the Wild Things Are – This adventure book is all about the imagination of a young boy. There is so much to learn about how individuals identify themselves, as well as how they feel rejected by others. This is a great book to read to those kids who seem to be struggling to find their identity in peer groups.

Treasure Island – Everyone needs a swashbuckling adventure and the fun of this classic is totally worth adding to your summer reading list. I love that it has so many ways for you to get creative with voices and accents while reading out loud to your kids. This story teaches a lot about adventure, trust, and real friendships.

Journey to the Center of the Earth  Jules Vern always made his crazy adventures come to life and this by far his best (in my opinion). With lessons to learn, amazing creatures and sites to see and imaginary animals sprinkled throughout, this is a great adventure tale that kids of all ages will love.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone  This now modern classic has everything you expect in a wizardry book. Not only do you fall in love with Harry and his life story, but you become a part of the world that is Diagon Alley and Hogwarts. As you finish this book, your kids are sure to want you to move on to the next in the series.

The Hobbit  Music, dwarfs, dragons, battles with crazy creature armies and tons of beautiful prose make this a book that has something for everyone in the family. Follow along while Bilbo Baggins goes on the adventure of a lifetime.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – Go back in time to a war-torn world and children who just want to escape. Learn the love of Aslan and the beauty of the world of Narnia all over again.

These books to read with your kids this summer are full of adventure, intrigue, suspense and of course love. Not only will you find great stories of morality and good ethics throughout, you’ll be able to share those things with your children in a manner they will love. Education meets fun with this list of books for summer reading.
