Breastfeeding Solutions From a Mom of Twins (Boppy Best Latch Breastfeeding Pillow Giveaway)

If you ask moms who have successfully breastfed they will admit it is a challenging process, but extremely rewarding. I breastfed my first child for six months and wanted to do the same when I found out I was pregnant again, in July 2015. There would be just be one small difference though – at the 3 month ultrasound, I learned I was expecting twins! I was most worried if I would be able to produce enough milk, so I decided to plan ahead and consult a lactation consultant to help me best prepare.

Now, a mom of six-month old twins, I can say from experience that twin moms are basically milking machines! If you can make it through the first weeks, then you should be able to last the long haul. Not only are the fist weeks the most important, but the most demanding. To produce enough milk you really have to be breastfeeding and pumping at all  times. Believe me when I say, exhaustion is inadequate word to properly describe how tired I was by week two. I credit my rented hospital grade breast pump and breastfeeding pillow as helping me most in the beginning.

If I could tell expectant moms who are planning to breastfeed one thing it would be to hold off on buying a breastfeeding pump. This is especially true for moms breastfeeding twins. You need to pump as much milk as you can and in my opinion store bought brands just don’t cut it. In my case, the nurse at the hospital laughed when she saw the pump I planned to use. The lactation consultant also insisted that I rent a hospital grade pump. I was wary at first, but it’s truly economical and MUCH easier to pump with a hospital grade pump.

For the first few weeks of breastfeeding, I had two pillows –  one for tandem breastfeeding and another for feeding one baby at a time. In the end, I stuck with The Boppy® Best Latch™ Breastfeeding Pillow. My babies had issues latching, so tandem feeding never really worked for us. The Boppy Best Latch was truly a solution to all our breastfeeding needs.

The Boppy Best Latch was developed with a lactation consultant and unlike other breastfeeding pillows has two distinct feeding surfaces. This allows me to choose the support I need when breastfeeding and bonding with each of my twin girls. The firm surface features a soft fabric that provides a stable platform for breastfeeding. Its contoured edge helped the twins master their latch because it’s easier for them to turn towards my breast. The softer fibrefill side also offers a more snuggly surface now that babies are bigger.

The wide arm will fit most moms comfortably and there is a removable belt to keep the baby sung against your body breastfeeding. There is no need to worry about spit up and other spills either because the pillow is washable – simply remove the foam insert and belt and toss the pillow into the wash!

The Boppy® Best Latch™ Breastfeeding Pillow retails for $45 and is available in two neutral designs –  Kensington Gray or Royal Navy (pictured is the Kensington Gray).  You can find it available for purchase at Babies”R”Us.com, Target.com and BuyBuyBaby.com and Amazon

Preparing in advance really helped me have a positive breastfeeding experience with my twin girls. For more breastfeeding tips visit The Boppy Compnay’s 25 tips for moms article.
