Money is tight. Mortgage payments, grocery bills, utility bills, school fees, and car maintenance fees place a heavy burden on your monthly income. If you’re an entrepreneur, adding the cost of running your business with all of these other expenses can put you in a tizzy. You want to spend time with your kids. However, if there is a tossup between buying movie tickets for the whole family and buying food to make dinner, dinner is always going to emerge the victor. If you often find yourself in this type of conundrum, these fun and free solutions are perfect for you.
Have a Family Movie Night
There is a classic that most, if not all, of your family members enjoy. It’s sitting on your bookshelf collecting dust. Why not put it in the DVD player, pop some popcorn, and snuggle with your kids to watch it again? Also, if you already have a Netflix subscription you can find some of your family’s favorite movies there. Make “Netflix and chill” a family event one evening.
Create a Family Play
If your family is large enough, you could consider creating a play. Have your students write the script, rehearse, and make costumes. When you think they’ve created something spectacular, invite their friends and other family members over to watch them perform the play live in your living room. It will be loads of fun.
Build a Fort
There are many things in your home that can be used to build a fort. Sheets, poles, pillows, and blankets are just the right elements for building a fort.
Participate in Free Craft Workshops
Believe it or not, there are free craft workshops tailored to kids. Some of these workshops can be found at select Home Depots and Lowe’s stores. Getting involved in a craft project with your child is a great experience. You will get to learn more about your child’s strengths and weaknesses see his or her creativity in action.
Create a Cardboard Box House
This is a perfect idea for toddlers and young children. You are bound to have some cardboard boxes lying around the home. Help your kids transform these boxes into little homes that they can entertain themselves with. Allow them to decorate the boxes, cut out shapes, and put in all of the elements to make that box a home.
Challenge Your Kid to a Basketball Face-Off
If you have access to a basketball hoop and basketball, you can challenge your child to a one-on-one basketball game. Not only will it help both of you keep fit, but it will also allow you to bond.
Create a Scrap Book
You can create a scrap book using inexpensive materials. All you really need is cartridge paper, construction paper, glue, crayons, and scissors. Piecing together your favorite family memories can be a rewarding experience for both you and your child.
There are many fun things that you can do on a budget with your children. These are only a few ideas. Feel free to come up with others and have fun bonding with your children.
