Kate Middleton and Prince William are getting ready for their upcoming trip to India, and the royal couple is preparing Prince George and Princess Charlotte for time apart. The Duchess of Cambridge has a few tips and tricks up her sleeve for dealing with separation anxiety.
Even royals have their struggles with typical family issues. Will and Kate may have top notch advisors, a team of stylists, makeup artists, nannies, security, housekeepers, and aides, but nothing can replace the love of a mother and father. Maybe that’s what makes separation so difficult. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are about to find out what long-term separation from the royal babies feels like. Prince William and Kate Middleton have taken solo trips without Prince George and Princess Charlotte before, but this tour of Indian and Bhutan will be a long 7 day trip…the longest the royal couple has spent away from the royal children.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s ages will be trick. George is 2-years-old and Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is 11-months-old. Reasoning and explaining with children in their baby and toddler years can be a struggle. Kate Middleton’s tip for handling separation anxiety with her children focus on routine. Trusted royal nanny, Maria Turrion Borrallo, will be at the helm while Kate and William are away. Don’t forget Princess Kate’s mom, Carole Middleton. The ever-present in-law will be around to make sure Kate Middleton’s presence isn’t forgotten. People reports that Carole has already planned several playdates with her royal grandchildren.
The Duke and Duchess also plan to keep in touch daily. Sarah Dixon, a maternity nurse who has worked with friends of the couple, has told the magazine that plans are already in place. “They will keep in touch with Skype, and I’m sure Maria will do a diary for them while they are away with pictures and photos, any moments they might have missed,” Dixon explained. “She will know that while they are away, the parents need extra reassurance.”
Prince George’s preschool experience will also be helpful. The heir to the throne is enjoying his independence in preschool and has been learning to accept time away from his mother and father as part of the routine. The son of Prince William and Kate Middleton has enjoyed 3 months of spending time apart from his royal parents.
The real challenge might be for Kate Middleton! “I think Kate will find it quite hard,” Sarah Dixon noted. “It’s the first time she has left Charlotte, and at that age they are doing new things every day. That’s often very difficult for parents because they feel they have missed out on certain milestones.”
