Spending time together as a family is super important. However, life gets in the way and kind of ruins family time for most families. If you’d like to make the most of every minute together, check out these ways to maximize family time.
Schedule in Time
Some families have no choice but to schedule in family time together. This doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you a good planner. Jobs and life get in the way and good quality family time falls to the wayside. By scheduling in family time, you’re maximizing that time.
Eliminate Distractions
It’s not often that the kids are distracted by something, it’s the parents. When it comes to spending time together, it’s important to eliminate distractions as much as possible. Putting the cell phones, tablets, and computers away during family time is super important.
Get Your Head in the Game
Moms and dads often ruin family time by thinking about what else they should be doing. When it comes to spending time with your family, get your head in the game. Try and concentrate on the task at hand, instead of how much work needs done or the laundry that is piling up.
Keep it Simple
Sometimes parents have these elaborate plans for their family, but it’s always complicated and never simple. Keep in mind that family time doesn’t need to be elaborate. You can sit on the living room floor and play checkers and your kids would think it’s wonderful. By keeping things simple, you are taking the focus off of WHAT you’re doing and focusing more on the family time spend together.
Put the Camera Down
What? Yes! Put the camera down and enjoy your family. 100 years ago, families didn’t have pictures of every second of life. While pictures are important, you don’t need to invite the camera. When your kids have your undivided attention, you’re maximizing family time together.
Play with Your Kids
As mentioned before, family time doesn’t need to be over commercialized. You can sit down on the floor and play toys with your kids and they will love it. Have your spouse join in and family times because everyone’s favorite time.
Maximizing family time is about putting down the electronics and focusing on each other. It’s not about what you do but about how you spend your time. Making sure your kids have these memories is important. No family is perfect, but every moment spent together is perfect in their eyes.
