Moving Tips for Pregnant Moms

Moving can be stressful, hard work and not very much fun to begin with. Add in being pregnant whether it’s 6 weeks, 20 weeks or 36 weeks, they all have their own set of difficulties, including you can’t lift anything to help! So here are some tips for pregnant mom on the move!

Drink Up – Drink lots of water. Around 100oz of water a day when on the go, in and out of the weather. The moving around and increased activity will burn up more water than you think.

Don’t Lift – This one is kind of common since no matter if you are 6 weeks or 36 weeks you shouldn’t be lifting boxes and furniture. So grab a chair sit back and direct where everything goes as it comes off the truck. Enjoy this excuse for a free pass!

Talk to Your Doctor – Every pregnancy is different talk to your OB about moving and what guidelines they think you need to take. High risk pregnancy will have stricter rules to follow then non high risk. How far along you are also mean different guidelines.

Listen to Your Body – Your body will tell you when it’s time to sit down and take a break, when you have over done it. When you need to stop and eat something or drink something. Don’t ignore those cues they are important to the health of you and your baby. Also don’t feel guilty that you can’t do as much as you did pre-pregnancy or as much as the others. You have a very good reason so take it easy and no one will fault you! Enjoy this while you can.

Start Early – Start packing as soon as you know you are moving. For the reasons listed above, you won’t be able to do as much as you used to be able to do. Starting early will allow you to get so much more done.

Get Your OB Records – Request a copy of you OB medical records and keep them with you while traveling. This way if you need to see another doctor or end up in the ER they know the history of your pregnancy down to the small details.

Use the 4 Hour Rule – Use the 4 hour rule. I was told this one by my Doctor. Every 4 hours sit down and relax for 30 minutes with your feet up. If you are traveling every 4 hours get up and stand and stretch and move for 15 minutes or more.

How did you handle moving while pregnant?
