Summer is finally here, and like everyone else I am counting down the days until my family and I leave for summer vacation. The beaches are calling my name! My husband Daniel and I usually spend the majority of the winter negotiating and drawing locations out of a hat, trying to agree on the perfect getaway. But, this year was different. I had my heart set on a trip to Turks and Caicos, and as soon as I showed him pictures of their breathtaking beaches and turquoise waters – he was sold.
Last year a friend of mine vacationed in Turks and Caicos and returned home with the most beautiful tan I have ever seen, gifts from the island shops for all of us, and thousands of photos of her family vacationing in the Caribbean which made me green with envy. I knew at that moment that my family was taking a vacation to Turks and Caicos, there was no ifs, ands, or buts about it. That night I hopped on the Turks and Caicos official tourism page and began planning our itinerary.
Planning a vacation for my husband Daniel and I is a breeze, but when we are travelling with my 3 year old daughter Ava I am always skeptical of new places. However, once I did some research on Turks and Caicos Islands, I knew it was the perfect place for the whole family to vacation. I am literally giddy about taking my daughter to their beautiful beaches, she would spend the entire trip playing in the sand and splashing in the water if we let her. I also can’t wait to take her shopping at all of the local boutiques and shops to get her some of adorable and authentic Caribbean outfits that I have heard so much about. She truly is a little princess, and she lives for dressing up.
Obviously when you go on a family vacation, you want to spend time with your family. However, my husband Daniel and I also like to set aside some alone time for each other so that we each get to enjoy some 1-on-1 bonding with Ava while the other is getting a break. While I am shopping with Ava, he plans on taking a trip to one of the casinos or going snorkeling, the coral reefs there are amazing! For my quiet time I have already booked an appointment at one of the best spas in Turks and Caicos, and I can’t wait to get a massage! While I am getting pampered Daniel plans on taking Ava mini-golfing at Fun World.
I am a huge foodie, and Daniel and Ava LOVE to eat – so I have already booked us a Turks and Caicos food tour. Seriously, how awesome is that? You ride around for an afternoon stopping at all of the local restaurants sampling the Caribbean cuisine, and island food is to die for! My mouth is watering just thinking about the fried fish, seafood, seasoned rice, sweet plantains, and exotic fruits. Hopefully we don’t stuff ourselves too full because the same day as our food tour we have made arrangements to go to Princess Alexandra Marine Park afterwards so that Ava can see the dolphins!
In case you couldn’t tell, just talking about my family’s upcoming vacation to Turks and Caicos gets me giddier than a kid on Christmas morning. I can literally close my eyes and feel my toes in the warm sand and smell the tropical flowers. If you haven’t settled on a summer vacation destination for your family this year – then I highly recommend checking out Turks and Caicos. I promise you, one look at their islands and beaches and you will fall instantly in love, just like I did!
