If you want to spend some time in Orlando, Florida but outside of one of the theme parks there is still a multitude of fun things to do and see for kids and adults alike. No matter what your interests are there is probably a spot in Orlando that will appeal to you for some day or nighttime fun.
Check out these activities that I love:
Characters in Flight – This is a tethered balloon ride that is located right outside of Downtown Disney that takes you up to 400 feet and overlooks nearly 10 miles of land from the basket.
Medieval Times– If you like jousting, castles, and constant action along with a pretty good meal of “finger foods” you will want to have dinner at Medieval times one night during your stay. Not only is this just plain fun (and tasty) but you can sneak loads of education into a trip here.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not– Even if you have never heard of it you can probably guess what you will see here by the name- fascinating oddities and wonders that are unbelievable like shrunken heads, and a vampire killing kit. There are 600 exhibits and artifacts.
Downtown Disney – Downtown Disney contains so much in one space that it could have been its own post, or two. But I will try to condense it for you- Here you will find shopping; everything from clothing and accessories to collectibles and toys. Themed restaurants like Planet Hollywood, T Rex Cafe, and Rainforest Cafe as well as many smaller restaraunts and snack shops. How about the AMC Theater where you can choose one of 34 movies, or Disney Quest a 5 floor venue that has classic video games and 3D encounters. Visit Splitsville for some retro bowling with a modern twist. Spend some time in stores like The LEGO Store, Pin Traders, Disney Design a Tee, and much more.
Depending on the time of year there are also special seasonal events.
Cirque du Soleil La Nouba – Located by Downtown Disney this is an event unto itself, enjoy the theatrics of the acrobats at Cirque du Soleil in the family friendly show. Performances run Tuesday through Saturday.
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum – This famous wax museum is filled with recreations of your favorite famous people from Music, Arts and Science, TV, Sports, and History. See celebs like Miley Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon, or important figures from history like Abe Lincoln.
Old Town- Like Downtown Disney this hot spot has shops, entertainment, and attractions. A perfect night on the town after or instead of the theme parks. Weekends feature three different car shows in addition to the permanent sites of the strip- Friday is All American Muscle Car Cruise, Saturday is Classic Car Cruise, and Sunday is the Show N’ Shine. There is an arcade, a shooting alley, a fun track, laser tag, and bumper cars.
