Discover the Magic of Bombardier Beetles With Little Luna – Big Talent

Bastei Entertainment understands how powerful mobile applications can be to aid young children with early learning concepts. My 3-year-old daughter, Ava, is a huge fan of the company’s series of Laura’s Star mobile apps and has been looking forward to release of their new character based app for preschoolers and elementary school aged children.

In Little Luna – Big Talent, children between the ages of 3-8 discover the magic lives of bombardier beetles with Luna and her ‘tooting’ family. Instead of using their tooting ability of expelling gas as a defense mechanism like in the wild, these bombardier beetles use their unique talent to express themselves musically.

There is always something fun to do with Luna! She welcomes children to explore her home while interacting with beautifully designed objects that perform different actions when tapped. On the top floor, there are two mini games children can take part in. Children can help Luna keep her balance while she takes part in a yoga session with her mom. This requires holding the tablet steadily while standing in one spot. While in a different room, children can guess the shadow animals Luna creates on her wall.

Outside the house children can play two other mini games that are centered on the families tooting ability. Children will help match tooting musical melodies with Luna’s brothers Theo, Fritz, and Alex to improve their rhythm, coordination and concentration. Luna’s father then joins in the fun with a mini-game to practice toot target shooting. Youngsters can also collect seeds to be watered as they navigate the outside environment.

As in other apps from Bastei Entertainment, Ava enjoyed tapping on the various interactive objects/graphics to see what they do. The shadow recognition game was definitely her favourite area of the app and I was surprised by how quickly she picked up on the image recognition. This mini game is perfect for younger users while the other apps are better for older children.

Young children will have no problem using this app because the interface is smooth running and navigating through the house is easy. The app music is fun and the sound that accompanies each interactive object is not aggressive in tone to ensure children don’t become startled.

Additionally, this app is designed with parents in mind. Parents have the ability to monitor a child’s screen time with a built-in-timer, so there is no need to deal with a cranky preschooler once the fun is over.  There are no advertisements taking over portions of the app and there are absolutely no in-app purchases. It’s also possible for parents to change the apps narration to English, Mandarin Chinese and German to help promote second language learning.

Little Luna – Big Talent is available now for $2.99 in the iTunes App Store
