Natural Ways to Fade Stretch Marks After Childbirth

Stretch marks are the unsightly lines seen on the surface of the skin, often in colors different from the surrounding skin tone. They are caused by tears that occur when the skin is forced to stretch rapidly such as during weight gain or pregnancy. After birth, these marks can be found on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, breasts and sometimes on the upper arms. While natural, these marks can leave women feeling self conscious or unattractive. Below are some natural ways to reduce and minimize the appearance of stretch marks following childbirth.

Potato Juice

The juice from potatoes is filled with vitamins and minerals that promote growth and help restore skin. Slice a medium-sized potato into several thick slices. One at a time, rub each slice on the affected areas allow the potato juice to completely dry. Rinse it off with warm water.

Sugar Mixture

A blend of natural white sugar with some almond oil and a few drops of lemon juice can lighten stretch marks and work as an exfoliator. Massage the mixture onto the skin for 10 minutes every day prior to showering. Repeat daily for a month to see a difference.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is widely used to treat a variety of skin issues such as burns and itching. Its nutrients provide healing and soothing and can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. It can be rubbed on the skin and left for a few minutes before rinsing off or it can be blended with the oil from 10 vitamin E capsules and 5 vitamin A capsules. The mixture is massaged into the skin until absorbed. Repeat daily.

Proper Hydration

Maintaining proper hydration is the key to good overall health and helps protect skin. Skin that is well hydrated is skin that is elastic and detoxified. Drinking 1 to 2 glasses of water several times a day will help keep skin hydrated and supple and can restore elasticity and reduce stretch marks.

Lemon Juice

The natural citric acid in lemon juice helps heal skin injuries including acne, stretch marks and other scars. Using circular motions, rub a fresh lemon slice on skin and allow it to absorb for 10 minutes. It can also be mixed with equal parts cucumber juice for a soothing, refreshing skin tonic. Rub into skin and allow to be absorbed. Repeat daily for at least a month to see noticeable changes in skin.
