Eye-Fi mobi: Photography Meets Social Media On The Go #HolidayGiftGuide

As an amateur photographer – and I mean REALLY amateur – I take lots of pictures of my daughter Ava. I’m sure it’s a favorite past-time of many parents, so I include you as well when I say amateur(even though you probably are much more skilled than I). As a blogger, I post pictures of my daughter to my social media accounts quite frequently but I usually post those not-so-optimal smart phone, or tablet pics. The reason: it takes much longer to get that good picture off of my Nikon DSLr camera whereas posting a picture from my phone is a one-click (two at most) affair. Before getting acquainted with the Eye-fi mobi 8GB SDHC, I had one of those moments where I thought to myself: ” Wouldn’t it be cool to have a wi-fi SD card so that I could instantaneously transfer my high-quality photos from my Nikon and publish them directly on my social media through my smart phone?!” And like anything else we think of these days, someone always seems to beat us to the punch. It’s a good thing they did because the Eye-fi mobi is an indispensable tool for someone like me.

The Eye-fi mobi is a wi-fi SDHC card that creates its own network to which your electronic devices can connect and transfer the files shared. It basically turns your camera into a a central hub from which your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or Kindle Fire can grab the files you choose and store them on that device’s photo roll or gallery. It works through an activation code which pairs your mobile devices with the SDHC card and makes sure that only you can grab the files stored on it. You’ll have to download the free Eye-Fi app from either the Apple Store or whichever other mobile store your mobile device uses.

The Eye-FI mobi is an absolutely invaluable tool if you ever do your picture taking with any camera that’s not your smart phone or tablet. And let’s be honest, for those truly special shots a smart phone will rarely make you feel like you did the shot justice. Since I’ve started using the Eye-fi mobi, posting good-quality shots from my good camera has been simplified unmeasurably. All I do is take my shot with my DSLr after which the card takes over and does the rest of the job for me. The card will automatically transfer new photos and videos whenever they are detected and disconnect right after to help conserve that ever-so-precious battery life. No longer do I have to come home, put in the SD card in my PC, search for the files to then upload – I do everything right one the spot! You simply have to connect to the Eye-Fi Wifi network and enjoy your piece of cake while the files are transfered automatically – or Eye-Fi says: Magically!

You can find the Eye-Fi mobi on their website currently priced at 49.99$. It is a great, and very cheap, holiday present for that photography junkie in your life this coming Christmas!
