Keep Calm and Hug Your Kids

This week has definitely been a crazy week with everything going on in the news. The people of Boston and Texas are in our thoughts and prayers and I hope that the healing can now begin. I’m not sure what motivates people to commit acts like this but I really liked what Mister Rogers had to say about tragedies like this:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster”, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

Introducing Tummy Time To Your Baby

The day after we brought Baby C home from the hospital we read through the discharge papers and it said to start tummy time as early as 2 weeks. I was hesitant because Baby C was so tiny but my husband said, “he’ll be fine” and put Baby C on his belly at 2 1/2 weeks. Baby C did great and he actually didn’t mind it but only for 5-10 minutes.

Fast forward to a couple months later and he would tolerate tummy time for about 10-15 minutes before he started to fuss and get frustrated. Read the rest of this entry »

Bedtime Routines For Babies

I attended a @shespeaksup #PampersDryBaby Twitter Party on April 10 and it got me thinking about our bedtime routines. There were a lot of great tips but the ones that stuck out in my mind were: be consistent with a bedtime routine; be flexible; give bedtime your full attention and keep activity low before bedtime.

We started a consistent bedtime routine with our son at 4 weeks and by 8 weeks he was sleeping through the night. I want to say it is because he is an incredible baby but it really thanks to some amazing products we’ve come across as first time parents. Here’s a little taste of what bedtime is like at our house and what works for us…

Family Fun: Softball Sundays

Daddy plays on a co-ed softball league on Sundays so Baby C and I go and cheer him on. A majority of the players have babies between 5 months to 2 years old so it is fun for the kids to play together. I usually hang out with the kids or go for a walk with Baby C. Baby C loves the outdoors. He kicks his legs and has a high pitched coo when the wind blows through his hair. The warmer weather is so nice because we head to the park a little early and spend family time together.

Teething? Or just Fussy?

Baby C’s not sick, no runny rose or cough…he’s fussy during the day, sleeping a lot more, drooling excessively and gnawing on everything. There was one day that he had a 99 degree temperature but overall its been about 98.8 degree. We can see a tiny white dot on the bottom gum. As a first time parent, I am finding myself looking at Google, WebMD, and BabyCenter for answers. Could it be that he’s teething?

Since we are not 100% sure we didn’t want to give him Tylenol. We decided to use natural or homeopathic products so we are trying Camilia and Hylands Teething tablets. One of the mommies at my Mommy and Me class said that the Hylands Teething tablets don’t desolve as quickly as you would like so it is better to start with Camilia. We tried Camilia twice in the last few days and it seems to work or at least calm him within about 15 minutes.
