Alanis Morissette Shares New Breastfeeding Selfie

Alanis Morissette Shares New Breastfeeding SelfieAlanis Morisette makes it no secret that she, just like many mothers, is very passionate about breastfeeding. In fact, the former chart topper often shares behind-the-scenes photos of her breastfeeding her children on her social media accounts. And the singer did it once again to help mark World Breastfeeding Day earlier this week.

Sharing a photo of her and her adorable 1-year-old daughter Onyx, she captioned her photo with, “#worldbreastfeedingweek #attachmentparenting #skinonskin.”

Alanis also has a 6-year-old son, Ever, with her husband Mario “MC Souleye” Treadway. For years Alanis has been very open and vocal about not only breastfeeding but the benefits of attachment parenting as well. While some mothers often breastfeed up to 6 months to a year, Alanis said that she lets her children decide when it’s time to stop breastfeeding altogether.

“I’ll breastfeed, and I’ll be breastfeeding until my son is finished and he weans,” she said on The Billy Bush show back in 2012. “I think it affords the child, when he grows up, to have a lot less therapy to go to. For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment. That stage of development is a very important stage.”

She’s also campaigned to normalize breastfeeding in public. In response to why breastfeeding is such a hot topic in some countries and not in others, Alanis wrote on her official blog, “Most cultures look at the resistance of the most primordial and existentially-made-available-miracle-of-an-act as sheer lunacy. They would never question this neutral and life-sustaining act. They would only support it, or better yet, mundanely-assume it. I wish for those of us whom are terrified of breastfeeding to get to a place where we barely notice.”

She added, “My wish for us in America, and anywhere around the world that reduces them and their function, would be to gently but surely address our many traumas that show up as divisiveness and violence toward our bodies, toward women, and toward ourselves….and thereby each other.”
