Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney movie growing up, so I’m excited to learn that Walt Disney Studios had decided to retell ‘the story as old as time’ in a live-action film. To drum up excitement, on Monday, May 23, fans around the world were giving a glimpse of the highly anticipated film in an official short US teaser trailer.

In the teaser, the audience is greeted with a beautiful instrumental piece as the Beast’s castle is revealed on a snowy night. We enter a grand ballroom with a deserted piano among magnificent looking chandeliers and intrinsicly designed walls with gold detailing. Cobwebs adorn the walkways and candles shine brightly, yet barely light the surroundings. The camera then pans into a painting, which features a royal family with a young boy in the centre. Suddenly, claws tear through his painted face. All goes dark and then the door opens, where we get the first glimpse of Emma Watson, who plays Belle. Lumiere (Ewan McGregor), the candelabra notices her and asks if she is the one (who will break the curse), to which we then hear Belle asking,”Hello?”. The iconic rose is then shown, before we see the face of Belle looking at it while raising her hand.

No official posters or images from the film have been released yet, but Walt Disney Studios promises the film will stay close to original story. They will also stay true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs.
