Baby Food: Avocado Adventures

Four days of sweet potato and we have now moved on to avocados. Luckily, no allergic reactions but by the third day, Baby C didn’t really want to eat the sweet potatoes anymore. My husband and I tried them and they actually tasted like regular potatoes, not sweet at all. We tried to mix rice cereal with it and add more breast milk but he still didn’t want them. I’m not sure if it was the taste or texture because the sweet potatoes were a bit stringy even though I put them in a blender.

So now we are on to avocados! It’s my husband’s favorite so he was very excited to start feeding Baby C so that he could eat some too! They are definitely much easier to prepare than sweet potatoes because all I needed to do was cut the avocado in half and scoop out the insides then mash it – no baking, steaming, or microwaving involved! We decided to cut the avocados in half, feed Baby C a spoonful mixed with breastmilk then eat the rest of it for our dinner. We didn’t want to save or freeze the avocado especially since it turns brown so quickly. It’s a win-win because we had the other half of the avocados topped on our tostadas, salads, BLT sandwiches, and eggs.

Baby C liked the avocados a lot more than the sweet potato. I’m glad we decided to go with avocados next because of all the nutritional value. According to the California Avocado webpage, 1/5 of a medium avocado has nearly 20 vitamins and minerals; vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, beta-carotene, lutein, iron and fiber just to name a few. Great for our little boy’s growing body!

I found a great link for avocado baby food recipes [HERE]. I can’t wait to try the “peary tasty avocados”!

I came across a good article on the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen that I wanted to share. We printed it and take it with us while grocery shopping!

We still haven’t decided what to make next. Any suggestions? Bananas? Apples? String Beans?
