Family Day at the Zoo

Family-fun-zoo

Baby C loves looking at pictures of animals in his story books so the hubby and I decided to buy an annual pass to the zoo. We were a bit worried that he was a little too young to enjoy the zoo but at four months he absolutely loves it! Hopefully the summers won’t be too hot so that we can still enjoy family days at the zoo.

We’ve taken him a few times and his favorites are the chimpanzees, zebras, giraffes and turtles…pretty much anything that moves fast enough for him to spot. His favorites are the snake neck turtles because they are so curious and come up to the glass to say hi!  His least favorites are the rhinos because they rarely move and the bears because they are always sleeping. Even though he can’t fully understand yet, we read all the animal bios to him. We hope he grows up to be an animal lover like his mommy and daddy!

During the week the zoo is pretty empty and there are a lot of other moms spending the day with their children. It’s definitely a great way for stay-at-home moms (SAHMs) to get out of the house and enjoy a day outdoors. Baby C has been on two playdates with his friend that is one week older than him.  They both love the animals and both us mommies agree the babies sleep so well on the car ride home!

Breastfeeding was definitely a challenge at the zoo. It took a while but I finally found a good spot that was shaded and quiet to sit and feed him. He’s at the age where he wants to look around and always tries to lift the nursing cover. I think next time I will bring a bottle of pumped milk which will make it a little easier.

We are taking a road trip this weekend and heading to the famous Monterey Aquarium. They just opened their new sea otter exhibit so we can’t wait to show Baby C. Look out for our next road trip and aquarium post!
