Reese Witherspoon Opens Up About Her First Time Becoming A Mother

Today at a March of Dimes event in Beverly Hills, Elizabeth Banks presented three time mom Reese Witherspoon with the Grace Kelly Award, which recognizes celebrity role model parents who demonstrate a commitment to their children and families. During her acceptance speech, Reese told a story of a friend who was expecting. Before she went into labor, the friend called and asked Reese, a seasoned expert, what to expect.

Reese described the phone call. “She wanted to know how she was going to feel in that moment and what it would be like when you meet your baby for the very first time. And I was talking to Jim, my husband, and I said, ‘Can you imagine describing that moment of pure joy that happens when your child is in your arms for the very first time.’ I mean, what are the words?!” 

The Academy Award winning actress gave birth to a son Tennessee James in September with her new husband Jim Toth and described the impact he’s had on their growing family. “We are parents that know the joy of having a beautiful, brilliant, joyful, perfect baby. That somehow heaven has opened up and delivered us an angel [who] looks adorable in every angle of an iPhone photo. And, in my case, looks gorgeous printed on a bag or a pillow or an iPhone cover — anything you can get on TinyPrints!”

The March of Dimes helps to improve the health of mothers and babies by funding research through donations. Reese is proud to be involved and stated, “I was very lucky to have a healthy delivery and leave the hospital with a healthy full term infant, but so many families in this country do not get that experience.” We love seeing celebrities get involved with worthy causes, and know that Reese’s involvement will do a lot of good for the foundation.
