Elizabeth Banks On Surrogacy

Actress Elizabeth Banks is talking about surrogacy in the new issue of Lucky Magazine. The 37 year old is mum to nine month old Felix Handelman. Elizabeth and her husband Max Handelman welcomed their son via a gestational surrogate.

The star is quite open about her choices when it comes to motherhood and why she chose to use a surrogate ‘It was a womb issue for me. Embryos wouldn’t implant. It’s a big leap, inviting this person into your life to do this amazing, important thing for you. And it’s hard losing that kind of control. But our surrogate is so extraordinary, and she’s still in our lives. She’s like an auntie.’

And motherhood clearly agrees with the star of Zach and Miri Make A Porno ‘I hate being away from him for even 10 seconds. My plan is that when Felix is 15, we’ll go skydiving together. I mean, the guy is fierce and fearless, and I’m hoping he stays that way. Because I want to be that mom. The one who takes her kid skydiving.’

Starting a family was a long time coming for Elizabeth. She met her husband when she was just 18. ‘It took a while for it to evolve into, ‘Oh, I guess maybe we’ll stay together forever.’ You don’t start dating someone at 18 and think, We’re getting married and having babies.’ But now they are completely smitten with Felix and can’t imagine life without him.

Babies are somewhat of a theme for Elizabeth at the moment. This year she’ll appear in What To Expect When You’re Expecting.
